Henri's tips for Neukölln

Visitors can discover all kinds of things on the banks of the Landwehrkanal - Maybachufer in the South and Paul-Lincke-Ufer in the North. The banks of the canal are lined with numerous cafés and restaurants. Top-notch snacks, such as vegan donuts for example, are to be found here. The busy Pannierstraße, in turn, connects the canal with Weserstraße, Neukölln's promenade.

Pannierstraße is also home to Tristeza. This is a long-established pub that is unmistakably queer, feminist, and left-wing. Tristeza has been around for so many years that it has become an institution on Pannierstraße. If you want to experience a Berlin far removed from the glamour of Unter den Linden and the Bundestag, this is the place to go.

A little further south on Weserstraße is K-Fetisch. This is a café where you are assured of a friendly and queer welcome. The coffee is great and the atmosphere relaxed. The cake is also supposedly good, but I haven't tried it yet. This is not the only reason why K-Fetisch deserves support. The K-Fetisch team has already suffered the at the hands of the Nazis - including attacks on the café itself.

Another queer place to go is Silver Future. The pub is also on Weserstraße, north of Pannierstraße, in the direction of Hermannplatz. I like the ambience - it's homely and cosy. Silver Future is definitely a safe place where you can be as queer as you are and sip delicious drinks. It is worth mentioning the vagina superheroine drawn on the wall stands watch over the guests.

The Tempelhofer Feld offers the illusion of nature in the big city of Berlin. It's actually absurd, because the massive field is a former airport where you can now walk around without having to dodge cars or angry cyclists every three seconds. Instead, kites fly there and kitesurfers can be seen. If you like, you can play sport there yourself, or barbecue at the outdoor grilling areas. Tempelhofer Feld offers a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's not really queer, unless you bring queer friends with you - or visit the neighbouring Hasenheide Park on the other side of Flughafenstraße, which is known as a cruising area.

Ficken 3000 offers even deeper relaxation from the hustle and bustle of the big city, at least if you visit the basement, which is a large darkroom. The very catchy name, which translates as Fuck 3000, already points to that. Ficken 3000 is dominated by an 80’s steel ambience, and porn is shown constantly on the many surrounding screens. Ficken 3000 is aimed at a predominantly gay audience.
