The most Famous Gay and Queer Darkroom Bars in Berlin

Berlin is considered an extremely permissive metropolis. Many bars have set up darkrooms where gay men (and sometimes other queers) can enjoy sex. These are the most famous ones.

"Orgasms are a human right" exclaims the bar, Große Freiheit 114, in Berlin-Friedrichshain.

Große Freiheit 114

Große Freiheit 114 in the neighbourhood around Boxhagener Platz in Berlin-Friedrichshain is the only bar there that has a darkroom. In addition to the darkroom, there is also a dance floor, which has already been lit up by scene celebrities such as Bambi Mercury behind the DJ booth. Große Freiheit 114 sees itself as a neighbourhood bar for the whole community. Their motto is 'Queers & Friends'. The bar aims to create a safe space for queer people and their friends.

A classic among Berlin's darkroom bars: Tom's Bar in Berlin-Schöneberg.

Boyberry Berlin

Tom's Bar in Schöneberg's Regenbogenkiez used to be the place to go for leather gays. The cult venue has now been taken over by Boyberries from Barcelona and Madrid and promises an exciting new program. (Incidentally, you can find more information about gay bars in Schöneberg here!)

Fetish parties appear routinely on the programme. The long bar is the perfect place for drinks and cocktails in a stimulating atmosphere, where you can easily meet other punters. The small darkroom at Mutschmann's is extremely well attended, especially at the big fetish events like Easter Berlin at Easter time and Folsom Europe in September. While the bar area is open to visitors of all sexual and gender identities, the darkroom is only accessible to those who identify as not 'strictly heterosexual'.
